RESTAURANT REVIEWS

Quoted from our latest Restaurant Review on the 3rd October 2011 by Tony Harper (Brisbane News) –

“Luxe shows a sense of style and imagination. The food is cleverly conceived and better than good; ditto the wine list and service, and the beer selection is just terrific.”

“A comfortable club-ish feel (and I mean the cravat, cigar and a copy of The Times kind of club rather than Friday night in Fortitude Valley).”

Laid-back, relaxed and good-humoured with a kick of low-key Valley trendiness, Luxe offers a daily serving of quality food. The menu flows from weekend breakfast to quick midday business meal, late lingering dinner and through an ever-available abundance of tapas. Adding to the cruisy vibe is an open-air interior that spills from glass surroundings onto an alfresco dining area. It is a refreshing break from a sometimes pretentious area of eating houses.

The traffic along the street provides visual entertainment while the palate gets its pleasure from shared plates of fresh calamari, giant grilled prawns, grilled asparagus and a few drops of chilled South Australian wine. The brekkie will have you taking large bites out of toasted English muffins with smoked salmon, fluffy scrambled eggs and spinach. Lunch moves with you, quick-sticks or slow and lingering. Try the grain-fed sirloin with bacon, fresh horseradish and house jus. The season’s freshest produce can easily be spotted in the dinner takings like the freshly-caught market fish of the day, served with a side of sauteed rosemary potatoes. With its down-to-earth all-day dining manner, Luxe is helping James Street to keep its cool.

Ideally located in the upmarket location just outside the Palace Centro Movie Theatre, Luxe fits right into the hip and happening scene that's all part of James Street's charm. Its sleek, open-air design is perfect for soaking up the sun while enjoying a late breakfast, or people-watching over a long lunch, and if you are after a pre- or post-movie feed then Luxe is the place to go. It boasts modern furnishings including trendy ottomans and orange banquettes, a fully stocked modern bar and a relaxed yet sophisticated ambience.

The team at Luxe concentrate on producing quality modern Australian fare that shows an all-important attention to detail. Presentation is always impressive, whether you are ordering the vanilla and ricotta pancakes with mascapone, rhubarb and maple syrup; or the grilled rib fillet on gruyere layered potato bake with wilted spinach, crisp battered onion rings and veal jus. There are some interesting entree choices such as the seared japanese scallops with wakame seaweed salad, ginger and black sesame butter. For something a little different make a few selections from the creative tapas menu and match them to a nice bottle of wine from the comprehensive wine list.
